Afghan U-19 squad off to India for tri-series
The tournament involving Afghanistan, India and Bangladesh will last 10 days, Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesman Farid Hotak told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Before their departure for New Delhi, ACB chairman Nasimullah Danish, accompanied by India’s deputy ambassador Viraaj Singh, under-19 players and their coach, addressed a news conference in Kabul.
Danish thanked the Indian Embassy for giving special attention to Afghanistan cricket, saying the Afghan under-19 squad was fully prepared to leave an impact in the tri-series.
With a high morale, Danish said the Afghan under-19 side would produce good results the way they did in the Asian Premier League.
Viraaj Singh assured of India’s support towards Afghanistan cricket which he said was on the path to progress and had a bright future.
He said the Board of Control for Cricket in India was enthusiastic to support the Afghan cricket board and the assistance would be soon given practical shape.
The under-19 side’s deputy coach, Raees Ahmadzai, said the squad had undergone tough practice as part of their preparations for the tri-series.
He said best players had been included in the side and hoped they would perform well.
