Kerry, Gen. Raheel talk Afghan reconciliation process
The visiting general highlighted Pakistan’s perspective on regional security and supported Afghanistan-owned reconciliation process, the challenges and the way forward.
ISPR spokesman Lt. Gen. Asim Bajwa said in a series of tweets after the meeting at the State Department that regional security, including Afghanistan, was discussed.
According to Bajwa, Kerry acknowledged Pakistan’s contributions and enormous sacrifices in the fight against terror. Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s desire to solidify its relations with the US based on mutual interest and respect.
Gen. Raheelis currently on a five-day visit to the US. The meeting, lasting over 50 minutes, was also attended by Pakistan’s Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani.
Kerry was assisted by recently appointed US Special Envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Olson. Raheel has already met the CIA chief and top US military commanders. He is expected to meet Vice President Joe Biden.
