2 butchers detained over selling horsemeat
MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Two butchers have been detained on the charge of selling horsemeat in northern Balkh province, police said on Monday.
The two were caught red handed selling the horsemeat on Sunday on the basis of an intelligence report in the 9th municipal district of Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital, police spokesman Sher Jan Durrani told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The detainees had confessed to their crime and intention to sell the banned meat, he said.
A resident of the city, Ghulam Mohammad, said it was police responsibility to prevent such illegal acts. He was concerned if the detainees had long been selling the horsemeat.
Durrani asked people not to let anyone sell prohibited meat in the city.
Horsemeat is prohibited in Islam and is not suitable for human consumption.
