6 insurgents killed, 13 wounded in the east
JALALABAD/ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Six Taliban militants, including a group leader, were killed, 13 others wounded and some were arrested during separate security operations in eastern provinces, officials said on Monday.
The 201 Selab Military Corps in the east in a statement said security forces conducted an operation in Alingar district of eastern Laghman province last night.
The joint offensive was conducted in Qala Tak area and a clash with militants broke out in Haider Ghar area, the statement said.
Air support was also called in during the operation that resulted in the killing of six militants, including a group leader, and injuries to another 13.
The military corps said the security forces stayed unhurt during the operation.
In Nangarhar province, some militants suffered casualties and others were captured alive during a series of operations in the province.
A rebel commander was among three others killed and another five wounded during a clash with security forces in Hesarak district on Sunday, the governor’s spokesman said.
Attaullah Khogyani said the police suffered no casualties during the firefight.
In the Achin district, he said, security forces had arrested five militants, including a Pakistani, with their arms.
Another nine militants were captured during an operation in eastern Nuristan province.
Nuristan police chief Ikramuddin Sari told Pajhwok Afghan News the operation in Paroon, the provincial capital, followed a bomb blast that ripped through a police vehicle, but caused no casualties.
He said nine militants were captured along with their weapons during the search operation.
