Jawzjan’s Faizabad district gets first mayor in 35 years
SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): For the first time in 3 years, a mayor for the Faizabad district of northern Jawzjan province has been appointed, officials said on Wednesday.
Saira Shakib Sadat, the only female district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News over the past 35 years, district had been without a mayor.She hoped the official would deliver basic services to residents.
“I hope that the mayor would not only focus on development activities, but would also pay due attention to the construction of a new district headquarters’ building,” she said.
Mayor Mohammadullah Pakteen promised meeting the district elders on devising the municipality’s work plans. Based on elders’suggestions, problems of the people would be resolved, he said.
Implementation of urban plans, construction of markets and transferring them from the district centre to the Shiberghan-Mazar-i-Sharif highway are among his priorities.
