Budgetary funds can’t be deposited in personal accounts: Governor
JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Government officials are not authorised to deposit budgetary allocations in their personal bank accounts, the governor of eastern Nangarhar province said on Friday.
The gubernatorial warning came after recent media reports claimed certain provincial government servants had kept large budgetary amounts in their own accounts.
Governor Salim Khan Kunduzi, taking umbrage at the illegal practice, had warned all government officials to refrain from misusing government funds, his spokesman said.
Attaullah Khogyani, talking exclusively to Pajhwok Afghan News, quoted the governor as directing a high-level meeting in Jalalabad that all budgetary allocations be utilised responsibly by the end of the current fiscal year.
Kunduzi also ordered disaster management authorities to purchase food and non-food items worth five million afghanis for distribution to earthquake-affected families in the province.
He went to ask the relevant departments to step up efforts at jacking up revenue collection in a transparent manner.
