Sancharak district on the verge of collapse, officials warn
SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): Officials of Sancharak district of northern Sar-i-Pul province on Friday asked the central government for urgent military support as many areas of the town have already fallen to militants.
In the absence of the required military support, the available security personnel could not check the Taliban’s advance, who are seven kilometresfrom the district centre.
Acting administrative chief for the district, Ghulam Ali Mohseni, told Pajhwok Afghan News, they had repeatedly requested military supportover the past few days, but they had been no positive response.
Currently, Masjid Sabz, Gajwa, Topkhan and some other parts of the district are being controlled by the Taliban, who are closing in on the district centre, according to a provincial councilmember.Asadullah Khurramsaid if reinforcements did not reach the district soon, it would be overrun by the militants in the next few hours.
