4 dead in 2-hour gunbattle between rival commanders
FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): At least four people, including a local commander, have been killed during a clash in northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Saturday.
A National Directorate of Security (NDS) official told Pajhwok Afghan News the clash erupted between two rival commanders,Fida and Farid, in Dipara desert on Friday evening.
He said the gunbattle, lasting at least two hours, left Farid and his three loyalists dead. One guard of Fida was also killed and a second wounded.
Provincial council member Abdullah Naji Nazari, a resident of Jurm district, said Farid came under ambush on his way to Faizabad, the provincial capital.
Earlier, Abdul Malik and Abdul Qadir, two local commanders, also engaged in fierce fighting in Karan-O-Manjan district.
