Badakhshan women seek market for handicrafts
FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Women from northeastern Badakhshan province on Saturday asked the government to find a proper market for their handicrafts and support the profession.
Different hand-made products like carpets, metal items, embroidered clothes, pots, copper ware, ornaments and stone articles from 30 local entities were put on display in Faizabad.
Sadat Private Company head Sima, who displayed waistcoats, told Pajhwok Afghan News 30 women were working for her firm. Many of their products were sold during the two-day show.
“Our main problem is lack of market, so the government and other organisations should help us find a proper market for our produces,” she said, happy with the holding of the event.
Afghan Aid official Abida said five stalls had been devoted to dairy products, fruit, processed vegetables and handicrafts. She asked the government to provide marketing facility for craftswomen to make them economically independent.
The two-day expo was organised by the International Psychological and Social Organisation (IPSO). IPSO Director Sadia Fazil said the aim of the exhibition was to attract buyers to domestic products.
