NDS worker gunned down in Kandahar
KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): An intelligence department official was killed on Thursday in a hit-and-run attack in southern Kandahar province, the governor’s spokesman said.
Samim Khpalwak told Pajhwok Afghan News the National Directorate of Security official, Mohammad Nafi Rokyal, who was also active on social media, was on his way home from office when came under attack from unknown gunmen in the second police district of Kandahar City, the provincial capital, in the evening.
Rokyal was well known among the youth for being active on social media and had a job at the provincial NDS office.
The attackers had escaped, but police had launched efforts at arresting them, the gubernatorial spokesman said.
No group has claimed responsibility for the killing of Rokyal, who contested last year’s provincial council elections but was unsuccessful.
A number of tribal elders, religious scholars and government officials had been killed in similar targeted killings in Kandahar in the past.
