Former director gunned down in Nimroz; killers escape
ZARANJ (Pajhwok): A former director of haj and religious affairs has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen in northwestern Nimroz province, an official said on Sunday.
Two motorcyclists gunned down Syed Nazir Ahmad Sadaat in front of his house in the first police district in Zaranj, the provincial capital, on Saturday night, the deputy police chief said.
Maj. Mohammad Ghaws told Pajhwok Afghan News motorcycles of the attackers were seized by police and a search for the perpetrators was underway. Taliban could be involved in the shooting, he suggested.
Deputy Governor Mohammad Qasim Khadri said Saadat had served as haj and religious affairs director three years ago. Since then he had no job in the government.
Two years ago, appellant court judge Maulvi Sarwar had been assassinated in the same area. Religious scholar Maulvi Abdur Rahim Fakoor was gunned down in Zaranj a year ago.
