Over 18 tonnes of drugs torched in Kabul
KABUL (Pajhwok): A senior Ministry of Interior (MoI) official said more than 18 tonnes of narcotics which had been seized in Kabul province were torched on Tuesday.
Taking to reporters here, Maj. Gen. Baz Mohammad Ahmadi, the counternarcotics department head at the Interior Ministry, said the drugs had been seized over the past 10 days from different districts of Kabul province.
The drugs torched included 537.62 kilograms of heroin, 14.650 kg of morphine, 8782.491 kg of opium, 997.168 kg of hashish, 1297.24 kg of chemicals, 8104.653 litres of alcoholic beverages, 2.004 kg of crystal and 384 K-tablets.
Up to 153 people, including 11 women, have been arrested in connection with the drug and were convicted up to 20 years in jail, he said.
