Students demand proper building for Paktika University
SHARAN (Pajhwok): Students in southeastern Paktika province on Wednesday complained their university lacked a proper building, saying they were faced with several problems.
Mohammad Yar, a student of Paktia University’s Education Faculty, told Pajhwok Afghan News the university had been without its own building for four years.
As a result, he claimed, students were attending classes in the Education Department. The Ministry of Counternarcotics had allocated enough money for the construction of a new building, but work was yet to begin, he alleged.
Yar added the construction process for the building had seen two false starts.
Zahir Shah, another student of English Literature, said classrooms in the Education Department were too small and hence the problem of space.
A tribal elder, Badshah Khan, said in addition to constructing a building for the university, the government should also relocate it.
“The university should be shifted to Sharan, the capital of the province. Its current location in Band-I-Sarda area is too far and vulnerable to security threats” he demanded.
Paktika University Chancellor Duri Khan confirmed the problem, saying South Korea had pledged constructinga building for the university next year.
He said the World Bank had also promised constructing surrounding areas.Khan added land for the university had already been allocated.
