Children among 11 of a family injured in Ghazni mortar fire
GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Nearly a dozen members of a family were injured when a stray mortar shell hit their house in the Zankhan district of southern Ghazni province, an official said on Friday.
The district administrative head, Ahmad Zia Yaqubi, told Pajhwok Afghan News the mortar had been fired by Taliban militants from Syedabad district in neighbouring Maidan Wardak province, hitting a home in Mast Qala area of Zankhan district.
He said the injured family members included seven male children, one female child and three adults. “The area is remote where security forces had not fired any mortar,” the official said.
A resident of Mast Qala area, Mohammad Halim, also confirmed the incident and said the victims belonged to the same family.
The Taliban have so far said nothing about the incident that comes as a security official in Maidan Wardak province said eight children were killed and a ninth wounded “in a security incident” in Syedabad district on Friday.
But a resident said the children were killed by rocket fired by security forces.
