Draft declaration for 5th Heart of Asia FMs meet discussed
KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday hosted a meeting of ambassadors from countries part of the Heart of Asia -Istanbul process to discuss a draft declaration for the 5th foreign ministerial meeting of the member nations due in Pakistan this month.
A statement from the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said UN special representative in Kabul Nicholas Haysom, the ambassadors of India, Pakistan, China, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Turkey, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kirghizstan and some European countries attended the meeting.
Foreign ministers of the member countries will meet in Islamabad, the Pakistani capital, for the fifth such conference on Dec 9.
Pakistani Ambassador Ibrar Husain briefed the meeting participants about his country’s preparations for the conference, its agenda and participants.
Afghanistan deputy foreign minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai read out a draft declaration for the 5th conference of foreign ministers and included suggestions from the envoys in the draft, the statement added.
Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kirghizstan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and United Arab Emirates (UAE) are the members of the Hearth of Asia process.
While Australia, Canada, Denmark, Egypt, Findland, France, Germany, Iraq, Italy, Japan, Poland, Norway, Spain, Sweden, UK and USA are supporting the process and the UN, the EU, NATO, ECO, OIC, SARAC and some other regional and international organizations are associated with it
The first of a series of senior officials of the member countries was held in Istanbul in December 2012.
