12 police shot dead at Ghorak checkpoint; arms seized
KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Two policemen have killed a dozen colleagues at a checkpoint and snatched their arms in the southern province of Kandahar, but officials deny the claims.
The incident took place in the Pir Qadam area of the Ghorak district on Sunday night when two policemen linked to the Taliban shot dead their 12 colleagues and took away their weapons, a security source said.
However, the governor’s and police spokesmen rejected the claims as baseless, saying no such accident had taken place in the district.
Meanwhile, the Taliban claimed responsibility for killing the policemen. Their spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said the fighters stormed the checkpoint in Ghorak, killing 14 policemen and seizing two others.
The attackers also snatched three motorbikes, arms and ammunitions from the policemen manning the checkpoint, he said.
