62 raisin-processing halls constructed in Herat: MAIL
KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) on Monday announced constructing 62 raisin-processing halls in Injil, Korakh, Guzra and Zindajan districts of the western Herat province.
According to the National Horticulture and Livestock Programme (NHLP), the 62 raisin- processing halls were constructed during the current solar year to encourage growers.
Each hall, having a capacity of processing 10,400 kilogram of grapes, was constructed at a cost of $8,000. An amount of $6,000 was paid by the project and $2,000 would by the orchard owner.
NHLP officials said 2,600 kilograms of raisin could be produced from 10,400 kg of grapes. “As a result, not only the quality has improved, but the price of raisin has also increased by 25 percent,” said an orchard-owner from Injil district, Gul Ahmad Khan.
According to NHLP, the agriculture ministry planned to construct two-storey raisin-processing halls across the country in 2016. The first floor will be used for packing and sorting the raisin and the second for drying grapes.
