Orchards on 750 acres of land being planted in north
MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The process to establish orchards on 750 acres of land has been launched in five northern provinces, officials said on Tuesday.
The new orchards are being established in Balkh province on 150 acres of land this year, National Horticulture and Livestock Programme (NHLP) manger in the agriculture directorate, Fahim Jabari, said.
He said farmers would also receive orchards related trainings, necessary equipment and seedlings as part of the project.
Up to 750 acres of land would be also planted with different fruit trees in Samangan, Sar-i-Pul, Jawzjan and Faryab provinces, he said, adding orchards of peach, apricots, almond, pomegranates, pear, apple, walnut and other fruits would be established in these provinces.
Balkh agriculture, irrigation and livestock director Katib Shams said the aim of the orchards was to improve economic condition of farmers. He said his department had already established 6,645 orchards in Balkh so far.
