Agriculture Director Mohammad Hassan Kishawarz said as many as 240 tonnes of refined seeds would be distributed to 4,800 farmers in 10 districts of the province.
He said each farmer would be provided with 50 kilograms of wheat for 740 afghanis, about 40 percent of the price. He hoped the seeds would lead to a higher wheat yield in the province.
Bu Ashur Mohammad, a resident of Aas village, complained the government had provided him refined seeds earlier as well, but there had been positive outcome.
He believed the distribution process should have been launched earlier because late cultivation negatively impinged on crop production.
Poppy is still being cultivated in Argo, Darim and Kasham districts. The distribution of wheat seedswill help wean farmers away from poppies to other crops.
