China vows to help Afghanistan, Pakistan build mutual trust

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): China has promised continued support to Pakistaninfo-icon and Afghanistanin improving their bilateral relations and mutual trust in interests of the neighbours and other countries in theregion.

The agreement came at a trilateral meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday when the three sides agreed peace and reconstructioninfo-icon in Afghanistanwas central to regional stability.

In a joint declaration, the three sides call on the internationalcommunity to truly honour assistance commitments to Afghanistaninfo-icon. Chinaand Pakistan will continue to provide help in their own ways.

Following is the text of the joint declaration:

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, Pakistan’s PrimeMinister Nawaz Sharif and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held atrilateral meeting in Islamabad.

The three sides agreed thatChina, Pakistan and Afghanistan are each other’s important neighbours. For Pakistan and Afghanistan to enhance mutual trust and cooperationserves the shared interests of both countries and other countries in theregion. China will continue to firmly support Pakistan and Afghanistanin improving relations and will play a positive role in this regard.

The three sides agreed that peace and reconstruction in Afghanistanbears on Afghanistan’s fundamental national interests as well as toregional peace and stability. The three sides call on the internationalcommunity to truly honour assistance commitments to Afghanistan. Chinaand Pakistan will continue to provide help in their own ways to thisend.

The three sides shared the view that advancing thereconciliation process in Afghanistan is the important condition torealize long-term security of the country.

China and Pakistan will, onthe basis of respecting Afghanistan’s sovereignty, independence andterritorial integrity and based on the “Afghan-led, Afghan-owned” principle, provide all support and help for resuming and advancing peacetalks in Afghanistan.

The three sides agreed that terrorismposes grave threats to regional and international peace and security. The three countries will take an active part in internationalcounter-terrorism cooperation in accordance with international law in ajoint effort to address security challenges.
