Taliban may have got weapons inside airport: Gen. Raziq
KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): The Taliban entered the Kandahar airport in labour uniforms and received weapons inside the facility, the police chief for the southern province claimed on Thursday.
“The Taliban might have got weapons from a dissolved security firm responsible for the security of the airport,” Gen. Abdul Raziq told Pajhwok Afghan News.
They security of the airport was strict enough and no one could enter it with weapons, he insisted, promising the outcome of investigations into the attack would be shared with media outlets.
At least 37 civilians and three security personnel were killed 40 others wounded in the gunbattle, he said, adding 29 women and children were among the casualties. The Taliban had captured the civilians, who were killed later on, he alleged.
Meanwhile, a statement from the Ministry of Defence said the last attacker was killed on Wednesday night at around 8:30pm.
Up to 38 civilians, 10 Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and two policemen have been killed. It added 17 other soldiers, four policemen and 14 civilians were wounded.
