Strong judiciary, rule of law needed to protect rights: Ghani
KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Friday called the protection and promotion of human rights as a basic duty of his administration.
The national unity government was doing its bit to prevent the abuses of Afghans’ rights, Ghani was quoted as saying in a press release from the Presidential Palace.
“We know the people of Afghanistan have seen an unfavourable situation and violations of human rights over the past few decades. They have experienced tough conditions,” he said.
On International Human Rights Day, he added, his government remembered the victims of rights abuses and reaffirmed its commitment to preventing the recurrence of violations.
Ghani underlined the need for strengthening rule of law and the judiciary to protect fundamental human rights and freedoms in Afghanistan.
The president claimed his government had adopted effective measures to strengthen the judicial organs and rule of law.
