Child dies, 7 injured in Kandahar road pile-up
KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): A child died and seven other people sustained injuries on Saturday in a three-car pile-up near a bridge on the Spin Boldak-Kandahar highway, an official said.
The accident took place before noon near the Arghistan bridge on the road, said Zia Durrani, the provincial police spokesman.
He said the accident involved three cars. One child was killed and seven people who were injured in the incident had been taken to hospital with some in critical condition. Durrani blamed the accident on reckless driving.
The police spokesman also said two insurgents were killed after they attacked a police post overnight in Bibanak area of Maiwand district, injuring a policeman.
He said the attackers wanted to take advantage of the darkness, but the police put up strong resistance. He said the attack had been repulsed and the fleeing militants had left behind their dead colleagues.
There has been no word from the Taliban about the attack.
