1,719 kg of narcotics set alight in Uruzgan
TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Afghan soldiers on Monday torched 1,719 kilograms of narcotics they had seized from a truck on the Tirinkot-Kandahar highway in central Uruzgan province.
The Afghan National Army’s fourth battalion acting commander in Uruzgan, Lt. Gen. Mohammad Qasim Helmandwal told Pajhwok Afghan News the drugs had been seized few days ago along with the vehicle and the smuggler.
He said the substance was destined for Kandahar province’s Nish district from Langar area near Tirinkot, the capital of Uruzgan province.
He said the drugs were set afire in the presence of the 205 Atal Military Corps commanders, the NATO commander in the south, the deputy governor of Uruzgan, the provincial National Directorate of Security chief, the police chief, other officials and media representatives on Monday.
“The trade of drugs strengthens the insurgents and prolongs their war against the government, but such seizures of the narcotics can prevent progress of the rebels,” he said.
