23 safe drinking water wells completed in Jawzjan
KABUL (Pajhwok): Twenty-three safe drinking water wells have been completed in 23 villages of Mingajik district of northern Jawzjan province, the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) said on Monday.
The wells were completed under the national Rural Water Supply, Sanitation and Irrigation Programme (Ru-WatSIP) of the ministry at a cost of nearly two million afghanis funded by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
The ministry said in a statement the wells equipped with hand-pumps enabled more than 1,540 families to find access to safe drinking water in the villages.
Ru-WatSIP, one of the development programmes of MRRD, aims to provide safe drinking water, sanitation facilities and hygiene promotion programmes for the rural communities of the country.
