Gunmen of MP’s brother clash with police in Kabul
KABUL (Pajhwok): Gunmen loyal to a lawmaker’s brother on Tuesday clashed with police over removal of some illegal cabins used as shops and attacked the 12th municipal district office in Kabul, an official said.
Some people were staging protest against the removal of illegal cabins by municipality officials in the Arzan Qaimat area when fire was opened at police, an official at the 119 police helpline department said.
“The cabins have been installed by gunmen of Haji Musa, the brother of Mullah Tarakhel, in the second square of Arzan Qaimat locality and have given them to people against rent. When municipality officials wanted to remove the cabins, the armed supporters of Musa prevented their move,” the source said.
“The gunmen opened fire at police and municipality officials and smashed windowpanes of the 12th municipality district’s building,” the official said.
A resident of the area, Dr. Saboor, said the cabins issue was ongoing over the past two weeks and local residents staged protest on Tuesday and burned tyres on the road after when municipality officials tried to remove the structures.
He said more police had reached the area to control the situation. He did not know which side opened the fire.
