‘Selection committee to launch work next week’

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Officials of the Election Reforms Commission (ERC) has said the selection committee, a proposed body to nominate members of the two electoral commissions, may start work next week.

Sadiqullah Tawhidi, deputy head of the ERC, told Pajhwok Afghan News the committee would launch its introductory meeting on Thursday and would then paid a visit to the President.

He said: “unfortunately the Presidential Palace delayed invitation and organisation of the committee members under different pretext, adding that the selection committee should have started its work three months ago.”

Tawhidi said the committee should select the best nominees to the president as commissioners of the Independent Election Commission (IECinfo-icon) and Independent Election Complaint Commission (IECC).

He said the civil societyinfo-icon organizations had resolved their differences in regards with the nomination of their representative to the selection committee.
