$35m worth projects launched on Helmand research farm
LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Renovation of an agricultural research farm was launched on Thursday in the southern province of Helmand, officials said.
He told reporters here that fruit storage and processing facilities and improving egetable seeds and fruit seeds were part of the project.
Administrative affairs office, equipment for training workshops, five buildings for fruit storages and improving seeds, a storage facility for fruit processing and a water reservoir would be built as part of the scheme, he said.
A retaining wall around the 141.5-acre farm, water wells, four canals, 30 water regulatory gates, and graveling of roads inside the farm would also be established in one year.
After completion of the project, more equipment and tools would be delivered to the research farm at a cost of $350,000 US dollars.
According to the farm’s manager, Ataur Rahman, the research farm was initiated 52 years ago and has so far developed different types of fruit orchards and trial plots for wheat crops and improved seeds production on 13 acres of land.
