In Badghis, husband kills bride just a night after marriage
QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): Officials in northwestern Badghis province claimed on Sunday a Taliban-linked individual killed his teenage bride a day after their mirage.
Bibi Jan, 19, was divorced by her first spouse Shah Wali recently. Then she tied the knot with Mirwais, Wali’s brother. Her first marriage lasted five years and she gave birth to five children.
The divorce happened after Bibi Jan complained of violence at the hands of her life partner, said Zia Akazi, the Bala Murghab district chief.
Bibi Jan agreed to marry Mirwais following assurancesof her security from local elders. But she was killed after spending only one night with her new husband.
Provincial Council Chairman Abdul Nasir Nazari confirmed the incident, saying the 19-year-old had been killed by her husband in Bala Murghab district.
Zarghona Sherzad, the women’s affairs director, condemned the incident in strong words and asked the authorities concerned to punish the culprits.
