Gunmen kill 4 sons of Kandahar tribal elder
KANDAHAR CIY (Pajhwok): Gunmen broke into the house of a tribal elder and gunned down his four sons in the Shah Walikot district of southern Kandahar province last night, an official said on Sunday.
The incident took place in Zangitan area of the district on Saturday night when the suspected Taliban militants forced their way inside the house of Fateh Khan, an Alokozai tribe elder, said Kandahar police spokesman Zia Durrani.
Durrani told Pajhwok Afghan News Fateh Khan, who once served as the Shah Walikot district chief during President Mohammad Daud Khan’s government, had no government job or personal enmity.
Durrani blamed the murder of four young sons of the tribal elder on Taliban insurgents and said with such targeted killings, the rebels wanted to counter the influence of elders.
Police have launched their investigation into the incident.
Elsewhere in Kandahar, a landmine blast injured a woman and her daughter in Sor Baghal area of Maiwand district, according to Durrani, who added that the family had unknowingly brought the device in firewood to their home. The landmine exploded and injured the mother and daughter when they were baking breads.
Police timely reached the area and shifted the injured women to hospital with the help of local residents, the police spokesman said.
Also in Maiwand, police took a man to hospital after he was injured in a bomb blast that ripped through his vehicle in an area between Qala Khamir and Ata Karbaz localities. Durrani said the landmine blast had damaged the civilian vehicle.
The insurgents have so said nothing about these incidents.
