3 Taliban militants, 2 police killed in Faryab firefight

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Three militants including a commander and two policemen have been killed and another four security personnel injured during a clash in Sherin Tagab district of northern Faryab province, an official said on Monday.

The clash broke out on Sunday night after insurgents attacked police posts in Koh Sayyad area of the district, the district chief, Syed Luqman Gahrik, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Three attackers, including a commander identified as Mohammad Amin, were killed when the security forces returned fire, he said. Another four militants were injured and the fleeing insurgents took away three weapons from the police post, he added.

Maj. Mohammad Raza Razai, the 209 Shaheen Military Corps spokesman, said the Talibaninfo-icon had captured the police post in the Sherin Tagab district, but they were driven from the post after security reinforcements arrived at the scene.

He said the clash lasted two hours and the army personnel were currently manning the post which would be returned to the police.

The Taliban have so far said nothing about the clash that comes two weeks after security officials said six Taliban militants were killed and a dozen more were wounded in Pashtuninfo-icon Kot district of the province. But the Taliban had claimed killing nine government forces and injuring another 19.
