Attack on Asadabad repulsed; 4 militants killed
ASADABAD (Pajhwok): At least four militants were killed when they attacked security posts on the outskirts of Asadabad, the capital of eastern Kunar province, an official said on Tuesday.
Police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Habibi Syedkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban launched coordinated attacks on the security posts from the western side of Asadabad on Monday evening.
He said the rebels,facing a strong response from the security personnel, were pushed back after a three hours clash.
Four attackers, including two from the Bajaur Agency of Pakistan, were killed and six others wounded, Syedkhel said, adding a policeman was also wounded and a security post partially damaged.
In Kabul, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said the attack, planned in Bajaur, was repulsed. A statement from MoD said more reinforcements had been dispatched to the area.
The ministry confirmed the death of one Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier and a policeman in the attack, saying a large number of militants had suffered casualties in the clash.
However, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed destroying six police posts and killing several personnel.He said one rebel was killed and three others were wounded in the offensive.
