ANP calls for indiscriminate action against terrorists

ANP calls for indiscriminate action against terrorists

Dec 23, 2015 - 12:41

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Senior nationalist leaders from Pakistaninfo-icon’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have called for indiscriminate action against all insurgent groups for the sake of peace and stability in the region.

The top Awami National Party (ANP) leaders issued the call in a declaration on the third death anniversary of former senior minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour in Peshawar on Tuesday. Bilour was assassinated in a suicide attack in 2012.

Former senator Afrasiab KhattakANP central general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain, provincial president and ec-chief minister Ameer Haider Khan Hotiand others also addressed the condolence meeting on the occasion.

“Operation against terrorists should not be confined to Waziristan or other tribal areas,” the party said, asking the government to target terrorist groups and their supporters in Punjab province as well.

Objectives of the National Action Plan (NAP)against terrorism could not be achieved without ending the perception of good and bad Talibaninfo-icon, Mian Iftikhar Hussain said, claiming the strategy had not been implemented in letter and spirit.

Afrasiab Khattak saw a sinister conspiracy behind Pakhtuns being pushed into violence and the insurgency. Pakhtuns had nothing to do with extremism, he insisted, linking peace in Pakistan to restoration of stability in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

The Pakistan government must honour its commitments to stability in Afghanistan, Khattak stressed, asking Islamabad to ensure joint efforts for bringing peace to the neighbouring country.

Haider Hoti warned the situation could spin out of control if military action was not initiated against militants in Swat and other parts of Malakand division.

Greater cooperation with Afghanistan was the need of the hour to vanquish terrorism in the region, the former chief minister remarked. “Any delay in joint efforts against militancy can plunge the region into more crises.”
