Ghani gets warm welcome in Istanbul, 3 MoUs to be inked
KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday flew to Istanbul on a two-day official visit to Turkey, his office said.
At the Istanbul International Airport, Ghani was accorded a rousing welcome by the city mayor and other local officials.
A statement from the Presidential Palace in Kabul said the president would meet Turkish Economic Commission members later in the day.
It added the president would discuss with local entrepreneurs investment opportunities in his country and the need for enhanced trade links between the two nations.
During the trip, the statement added, Ghani would meet separately with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Ahmed Davutoglu.
Ministers of foreign and interior affairs of the two countries will sign accords on promoting political consultations and security cooperation between the two countries.
A third memorandum of understanding (MoU) would be inked on the construction of the Maulana Jalaluddin Balkhi University by Turkey in Kabul, the statement concluded.
