Taliban kill ANA soldier, place bomb beneath his corpse in Faryab
MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Taliban insurgents killed an Afghan National Army soldier after kidnapping him and placed a landmine beneath his body in northern Faryab province, an official said on Saturday.
The off-duty ANA service member was travelling in a passenger vehicle on Friday when Taliban gunmen seized him after identifying him, Khwaja Sabz Posh district chief Abdullah Masoomi told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the ANA soldier in plain clothes was on his way from Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, to Maimana, the capital of Faryab, when Taliban gunmen had identified him from his service card or any other document he possessed.
“After killing him, the Taliban placed a landmine beneath his body,” he said, adding a technical team sent to the area had collected the soldier’s remains and had defused the landmine.
The slain soldier was identified as Abdul Kabir, a resident of Baghlan province, by the 209 Shaheen Military Corps first battalion spokesman Maj. Raza Razai.
Also on Saturday morning, a passenger was shot and injured by unknown gunmen in Khwaja Sabz Push district. The district chief blamed the shooting on the Taliban and said the injured person had been taken to hospital.
The Taliban have so far said nothing about the two incidents, but Qari Wakeel, who claims to be a spokesman of Taliban in Pashtunkot district of Faryab, said one local police and one border police officials had been killed in the district.
But Pashtunkot district chief Abdul Qadir Qaderi said a gray-bearded man, who was collecting firewood, was killed in firing from a machinegun by Taliban in Nadarabad area of the district.
