14 rebels killed in clash with police in Uruzgan
TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): At least 14 Taliban militants were killed and another eight wounded during an overnight clash with police in central Uruzgan province, officials said on Monday.
The clash erupted on Sunday night when insurgents attacked 10 security posts in Chinartu district, the governor’s spokesman, Dost Mohammad Nayab, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said two policemen were also killed and another two wounded during the clash that lasted until late night.
The official said the Taliban after their defeat in Sangin district of southern Helmand province launched attacks in Chinartu, but security forces had pushed them back.
Chinartu police chief 2nd Lt. Walidad said insurgents had been attacking security forces for the last three days in the district centre and other areas. Many civilians had also suffered casualties and six policemen had been killed and wounded so far during these clashes, he said.
