38 Daesh insurgents eliminated in Nangarhar raids

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Thirty-eight Daesh -- Islamic State (IS) -- fighters have been killed during airstrikes in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Tuesday.

The air raids were conducted on Daesh positions in two areas of Chaparhar district over the past 24 hours, the 201st Selab Military Corps said.

In Sulemankhel neighbourhood, where a Daesh hideout was struck, 36 militants loyal to Mullahinfo-icon Naeem and Habibzai were killed, a statement from the ANA corps said.

Fourteen heavy machineguns and eights rockets of the rebel group were destroyed during the operation. Another two fighters, who were trying to escape on motorbikes, were also killed.

Elsewhere in the province, the corps said, a militant commander was detained in the border town of Torkham. The commander, identified as Gula Jan, was active in the Sarobi district of Kabulinfo-icon.

Gula Jan, alias Gulalai, had spent some days in Pakistaninfo-icon. Involved in planting roadside bombs, the insurgent commander was detained while returning to Afghanistaninfo-icon yesterday.

A day earlier, 10 Daesh members were killed and some of their bases destroyed during similar raids in the restive district of Achin near the Pakistan border.
