JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A nine-member Talibaninfo-icon group has been detained in Nazyan district of eastern Nangarhar province near the Pakistani border, an official said on Tuesday.

The 301st zone border police commander, Col. Mohammad Ayub Hussain Khail, told a news conference here that the militants were detained during a face-to-face fight in Marwo area on Monday night.

“The rebels wanted to attack security posts of border forces in Guldara and Shah Kot areas of Nazyan district in the zero point area, but they were ambushed and captured by our forces,” he said.

The group was involved in terrorist activities and a number of weapons and explosives were seized from them, Hussain Khail said.

He did not reveal nationality of the militants but said, “It would become clear later as to which area they belong to, but it is clear they are Taliban.”

About Afghan forces’ airstrikes in Achin district of Nangarhar, he said more than 50 Islamic State (IS) or Daesh fighters had been killed in the air raids.

A local security official said more than 60 Daesh rebels had been killed during airstrikes by Afghan forces in Achin district over the past 24 hours.

No group has commented on these incidents so far.
