Blast inside Shegal education office damages 3 rooms

Blast inside Shegal education office damages 3 rooms

Dec 29, 2015 - 19:40

ASADABAD (Pajhwok): A blast inside the educationinfo-icon office of Shegal district of eastern Kunar province on Tuesday destroyed three rooms of the department but there were no casualties, an official said.

The education department office is located inside the main high school in the district centre.

Provincial deputy education director Abdul Qahar Akhunzada told Pajhwok it was a landmine blast that collapsed three rooms of the education office and damaged a number of textbooks, religious books and two copies of the holy Quraninfo-icon.

“We urge people of Shegal district to support us in protecting education facilities there,” Akhunzada said, adding the blast was the first attack targeting an education office in Kunar.

Shegal district chief Abdul Zahir Sapi confirmed the blast and tribal elders had been invited to launch a joint investigation.

Kunar provincial council chief Jalaluddin Sayar said such attacks were the handiwork of the enemies of Afghans and education.

“We will create a joint commission representing the five big tribes in Shegal to hold talks with Talibaninfo-icon and Hezb-i-Islamiinfo-icon groups to identify the perpetrators of the blast,” he said.

There are 512 schools across Kunar and all are operational.
