Fikar wa Amal Jirga wants selection body dissolved
KABUL (Pajhwok): The Fikar wa Amal Jirga on Tuesday insisted on dissolution of the selection committee and defended the Wolesi Jirga or lower house of parliament over rejecting a number of presidential decrees.
Over the past few month, the Wolesi Jirga had rejected eight legislative presidential decree and the last one was rejected a day earlier.
In a statement, the Fikar wa Amal Jirga said government officials should respect the law and should dissolve at the earliest the selection committee, a body tasked with introducing nominees as commissioners on the two electoral bodies.
The jirga stressed the government should introduce electoral reforms which were acceptable to all. The forum said dates for holding parliamentary and district council elections should be announced without further delay.
It also asked the government to seriously look into the latest set of suggestions from the Electoral Reform Commission.
The jirga supported the lower house in rejecting presidential decrees, saying their rejection was in the interest of the country.
