School principal killed in Faryab, Taliban deny hand
MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Local officials on Friday said a girls’ school principal has been gunned down by unidentified men in Khwaja Sabzposh district of northwestern Faryab province.
The district chief, Abdullah Masumi, told Pajhwok Afghan News Mullah Jan Mohammad, who also served as head of the local development council, was shot dead on his way home from mosque on Thursday evening.
Masumi accused Taliban militants of killing Mohammad, but Qari Taj Mohammad, who speaks for Taliban in Faryab, told Pajhwok Afghan News over the telephone that they were not involved.
According to Masumi, the slain person was also a member of the Junbish-i-Milli Islami party led by first-vice president Abdul Rashid Dostum.
Naqibullah, a resident of the area, said Mullah Jan Mohammad had been supporting development activities in his area.
