President orders MoD to continue anti-Daesh offensive
KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Saturday directed the Ministry of Defence to continue operations against self-styled Islamic State or Daesh militant group in Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province and other areas.
The president, who met with elders from the Shinwari tribe at the Presidential Palace, said a joint delegation of religious schools, tribal elders and legal experts would be appointed to seek resolution to security and other problems.
A statement from the palace said Mualvi Abdul Basir, Malak Syed Osman and Malak Syed Hakim, speaking on behalf of others, briefed the president about their security and other problems.
“Your pain runs deep and I always feel it,” the president said, describing 2015 a tough year, saying it were the sacrifices of Afghan security forces that the enemies were defeated and the international community renewed their pledges.
He said the Afghan security and defence forces had always carried out operations against Daesh and directed the Ministry of Defence to continue the offensive against the outfit.
The president promised to appoint a delegation to be tasked with providing urgent assistance to families displaced by insecurity and violence.
At the end, the elders put a traditional turban on the president’s head as a mark of respect.
