RS condemns attack on French guesthouse in Kabul
KABUL (Pajhwok): NATO Resolute Support (RS) strongly condemned the Taliban attack on Afghan civilians in Kabul that left three people dead, including one child, and fourteen injured. A Taliban group has claimed responsibility for this attack, which targeted civilians.
“A Taliban group has started the new year the same way they ended last year: by again targeting defenceless civilians and showing their complete disregard for the safety of Afghan people,” said Brig. Gen. Wilson Shoffner, RS Spokesperson.
On behalf of Gen. John Campbell, Resolute Support extends our thoughts and prayers to the victims and the families affected by this act of violence.
Taliban groups typically attack places with a high density of innocent civilians. This willful disregard for human life is the leading cause of civilian casualties in Afghanistan. The U.N. attributed 70% of all civilian casualties directly to terrorists in the first half of 2015. There were approximately 6,500 civilian deaths and injuries caused by insurgent attacks in 2015.
Resolute Support expresses its condolences to the families of those killed and wounded in yesterday's attack. We will continue our efforts to train, advise and assist the Afghan National Defence and Security Forces as they provide stability for the Afghan people and counter the Taliban groups and their disregard for the lives of innocent Afghans.
