Senior Jawzjan judge freed from Taliban’s captivity
SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Security officials on Monday said the appellant court chief for northern Jawzjan province has been freed from Taliban’s captivity.
Jawzjan police chief Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani told Pajhwok Afghan News that the senior judge, Justice Mirwais, had been kidnapped by Taliban militants about three months ago on the Shiberghan-Sar-i-Pul highway in Seh Shanba area near Shiberghan city, the provincial capital.
Without going into details, Jawzjani said the judge was freed from Taliban’s captivity about 7pm on Monday evening.
But a relative of Mirwais, who declined to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the judge was released by the Taliban as a result of efforts by elders from Balkh, Jawzjan and Sar-i-Pul provinces. He denied any deal with the Taliban in return for releasing the judge.
