Pakistani forces set up new checkpoints near Afghan border
PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistani security forces have set up new check-posts near the border with Afghanistan to prevent militant attacks and infiltration into the tribal region of Bajaur.
The checkpoints have been established in Mamond, Salarzai, Charmang, Kamangarh, Chamarkand and Nawagai sub-districts of Bajaur Agency, an official said on Monday.
Bajaur Scouts Commandant Col. Nayyar Zaman told journalists that insurgents often crossed the porous border to attack security forces, civilians and government installations.
The step was aimed at preventing the militants from entering the region from Afghanistan, Zaman said, adding: “We have also unearthed weapons dumps with the help of locals.”
