Taliban publicly hang ‘child rapist’ in Helmand
LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): The Taliban on Tuesday publicly hanged a man accused of raping a child in the Nad Ali district of southern Helmand province, an insurgent leader said on Tuesday.
A Taliban commander, who declined to be named, said a Taliban court had sentenced the alleged rapist in public three days ago in Loy Manda area after a trial also witnessed by local residents.
Nad Ali district chief Mohammad Idrees Alizai confirmed the execution that took place on Tuesday noon and said hundreds of local residents witnessed the hanging.
He said the hanged person, a Taliban fighter, was arrested after he raped the child and was punished to be a lesson for others.
The two formal Taliban spokesmen have not yet confirmed the incident.
