AAF to get 4th gunship helicopter from India in 3 weeks
KABUL (Pajhwok): India will deliver a fourth Mi-25 gunship helicopter to the Afghan Air Force (AAF) within three weeks, the acting defence minister informed lawmakers on Saturday.
In December, Afghanistan received three of the four Mi-25 helicopters from India. The delivery came days ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kabul.
Masoom Stanikzai, briefing Wolesi Jirga members, said that the Ministry of Defence was drawing up a long-term plan for equipping the nascent air force and training its pilots and engineers.
With the arrival of fixed-wing light attack aircraft from the United States, the minister hoped AAF capabilities would grow considerably.
On Thursday evening, President Ashraf urged a delegation of US senators to help equip AAF.He referred to Afghanistan’s needfor aircraft and helicopters.
