3 Afghan women, child drown as migrant boat sinks in Turkey
KABUL (Pajhwok): Four Afghan nationals drowned off the Turkish coast after a migrant boat sank in the Aegean Sea on Monday, media reports said.
Anadolu Agency reported the Turkish coast guards rescued eight other migrants, including a baby, while five others were able to swim to safety.
According the Turkish Weekly, three women and a child lost their lives after the vessel carrying the Afghan asylum seekers sank off Canakkale province.
More than a million refugees arrived in Europe by sea in 2015, according to the UN. Over 80 percent of the arrivals entered via Greece.
The International Organization for Migration says 3,771 asylum seekers died or went missing on their way to Europe in 2015.
