6 held in Logar on charges of having links with rebels
PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The authorities claimed on Tuesday arresting six suspected militants in different parts of central Logar province, but residents alleged the detainees were innocent people.
Salim Saleh, the governor’s spokesman, said the intelligence personnel arrested two suspects in Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, and four others in Charkh district during overnight raids.
He said the raids by the National Directorate of Security (NDS) personnel had yielded positive result in recent months in terms of controlling the security stitution in the province.
On the other hand, some residents of Charkh claimed the detainees had no links with militants. Haji Mohammad Naeem, tribal elder from Garm Ab village, said the arrested were ordinary people.
He added NDS officials had detained six persons, including a man, three of his sons and two gusts. He warned such arrests could increase the distance between the government and the people.
Mohammad Qasim Khoshi, deputy chief of the provincial council, assured tribal elders the detainees would be freed if found innocent.
