Increasing use of coal contributing to air pollution in Herat
HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The National Environment Protection Agency on Tuesday said the increasing use of coal for heating purposes caused air pollution in the western province of Herat.
“Using coal is not a proper way of heating because it has a negative impact on public health and pollutes the air,” acting head of the agency, Basir Ahmad Fazli,told Pajhwok Afghan News.
For the prevention of air pollution, filters should be installed in chimney of coal-fired heaters in houses,hotels and public bathrooms of the city, the official proposed.
Air pollution is increasingacross the country, particularly in the Herat,according to resident Basir Ahmad, who asked the agency to draw up plans for the protection of environment.
“The air in Herat it too much polluted. Coal is burnt in public bathrooms and houses on the one hand and old cars are plying roads on the other,” said another resident of the city, Syed Shafiq.
